If you know you want to eat at a few extra-charge restaurants during your voyage, you can buy one of several dining packages that offer meals at a discount. Other included-in-the-fare offerings found on some ships include Sorrento's pizza parlors, the Mediterranean cuisine-themed Solarium Bistro and the coffee bar Cafe Promenade. Royal Caribbean sails almost everywhere in the world, but its heaviest presence is in the Caribbean and Europe. In a typical summer, the line will deploy about half its ships on sailings to the Caribbean, Bahamas and Bermuda while sending another seven or eight ships to Europe.
Hit or Miss: Carnival's Category 1A Cabins
Book your once-in-a-lifetime experience on Royal Caribbean’s newest ship here. Odyssey will be the first Quantum Ultra Class ship to visit Willemstad, Curacao and Oranjestad, Aruba when the ship begins sailing from South Florida. The next iteration of our award-winning Adventure Ocean kids program provides children of all ages with immersive, hands-on experiences. Hangout, pictured above, gives kids ages 6 to 10 the space to let loose and lounge with gaming consoles, foosball and more. Nonetheless, I continue to book inside cabins again and again when I cruise, and here’s why I actually like these rooms.

Alas, my sense of responsibility (and the fact I didn't pack a bathing suit) won out. Royal Bay Pool is slated to be the largest pool at sea, and all the hot tubs strewn around the deck should find plenty of customers. Royal Bay is enormous and looks like it takes up half the length of the deck. The Swim & Tonic pool is easily going to be the most popular pool on the ship with its swim-up bar and in-pool seating. There's still plenty of work to do on Icon of the Seas before the first revenue sailing, and that was the case with the pool deck. The new Dueling Pianos bar has the potential to be one of the top nightlife locations, and I really like the seating arrangements in the Point & Feather pub.

But that doesn't mean there aren't at least a few tricks for maximizing the space. Many cruisers combat the lack of daylight in inside rooms by purchasing a sunrise alarm clock. The light on these alarm clocks remains off during the night and gradually turns on during sunrise, which can help you keep a normal sleep schedule. Our goal has been to provide our readers with expansive coverage of all aspects of the Royal Caribbean experience. These over-the-top suites are built with families that want to splurge in mind. You will find an in-suite slide, leg room, cinema, play room, and an enormous amount of living space.

The ship's riff on Broadway-approved "Wizard of Oz" — 16-piece live orchestra and flying bed included — delighted me, a hater of most musicals. The pool deck on Wonder of the Seas has been redesigned as well with a resort-style feel to it. The private neighborhood includes a plunge pool and bar in the Suite Sun Deck and Coastal Kitchen exclusive restaurant. The Suite Sun Deck is part of the eighth neighborhood, which is a private area reserved just for suite guests. Without a doubt, the best reason to book an inside room is for the cost savings, relative to other stateroom categories.

In addition to Promenade view inside cabins, Oasis Class ships also feature Central Park view and Boardwalk view inside cabins, which look into their respective neighborhoods. In addition to the view of the Boardwalk fun, some Boardwalk balconies can offer views of the ocean and/or the AquaTheater, depending on where your room is located. Boardwalk balcony rooms are also usually priced less than ocean balconies. The exact size of a Central Park view stateroom with balcony is 182 square feet with a 50 square foot balcony. Not only do you get a larger bedroom area, but you will get your own balcony attached to your room that you can step onto and enjoy the outside views.

However, Royal Caribbean doesn’t just cater to families; their ships have something for everyone. They attract a wide demographic ranging from couples of all ages to solo travelers, with solo cabins being added to more ships recently. Despite their smaller size, these vessels still provide a substantial array of restaurants, bars, entertainment options, and attractions. The company also owns five slightly smaller Voyager Class vessels, each with a capacity of around 3,800 passengers. In total, the 18 ships from the Oasis, Quantum, Freedom, and Voyager classes form Royal Caribbean’s large-ship category. With capacity for nearly 10,000 passengers and crew, Icon of the Seas is billed as part all-inclusive resort, part theme park, and a massive destination unto itself.

Whether you choose to use a travel agent or not, remember to make the most of your credit card spending when paying for the cruise. I like variety in my cruise ships, because one day I might prefer one pool and another day a different one. But the Category 6 looks like it will deliver a true waterpark experience on a cruise ship. There's so many slides, and I know it's where my kids will want to go on a sea day.
It reminds me a lot of Cafe al bacio in some ways, and I would love to sit and people watch from there. The 1,196-foot-long, 20-deck Icon of the Seas is packed with bars, restaurants, and things to do. Any shorter of an itinerary, and you might not have time to experience all it has to offer.
Promenade view cabins are interior cabins with a window facing the Royal Promenade on select Royal Caribbean ships. On Oasis Class ships, Royal Caribbean created balcony cabins that face inwards, rather to the ocean. A balcony cabin gets you more indoor and outdoor space, and that means more room for everyone to maneuver and makes the room feel less crowded. Additionally, having a balcony means you have a great spot for sail away, enjoying the ocean passing by, or seeing the port you are docked in from the comfort of your stateroom. Having your own balcony means you have a special spot on the ship just for you to enjoy, that provides views all around the ship, as well as that terrific ocean breeze. Many cruise fans swear by a balcony for the added space, private area and ambiance that only a balcony room can provide.
I think this might be better for my kids, who seem to think noon is too early to get up while on a cruise. While it worked as intended, at this point in my life, I rarely sleep without an alarm set whether I am in a balcony or inside room. There are 7 different light setting too, so you can choose the color you like. The idea is to not only have an alarm clock, but a light that will come on slowly to let you know there's daylight out. It worked as intended and gave me just enough light once the lights were out if I got out of bed. I positioned it near the bathroom so it wouldn't pick me up moving around in bed.
If you've been on the Oasis Class ships, then you know how cool the shows are and I didn't see any of them. Even without its signature attraction on the day I visited, I loved being in this space more than I thought I would. The AquaDome is one of those staggering places that you can't help but revel in the magnitude of the space. From the theater in the middle, to the Overlook seating in front, to the food hall, I never thought I would want to spend as much time here as I did once I walked it. It's three decks high, has a beautiful interior made up of kinetic tiles, and I'm told there will be certain events that occur in there related to sound and sight. You might not want to visit The Pearl every day, but I challenge you not to go there at least once and marvel at it.
